Our commitment to making this website usable by everyone, including people with disabilities.

Our Commitment
Cobblestone Spine and Joint Institute is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to people with disabilities. We believe that every visitor deserves equal access to information about our services, our location, and how to reach us. We are actively working to improve the accessibility of our website in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Measures We Have Taken
Our website has been built with accessibility as a foundational requirement. Specific measures we have implemented include:
- Semantic HTML: All pages use proper HTML5 semantic elements including
main, nav, footer, and appropriate heading hierarchy to allow screen reader users to navigate content efficiently. - Skip Navigation: A "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass the navigation menu and go directly to page content.
- Descriptive Alt Text: All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them.
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements, including navigation menus, buttons, forms, and links, are fully operable using a keyboard alone without requiring a mouse.
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators are present on all interactive elements so keyboard users can see where their focus is at all times.
- Form Labels: All form fields have associated labels that are read by screen readers to describe what information is required.
- Color Contrast: Text and background color combinations throughout the site meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text.
- Language Attribute: The primary language of each page is declared in the HTML to assist screen readers in selecting the correct voice profile.
- Mobile Responsiveness: The site is fully responsive and usable on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop screens at any viewport size.
- ARIA Attributes: Where appropriate, ARIA landmark roles and attributes are used to improve the experience for assistive technology users, including proper aria-labels on navigation regions and aria-expanded states on interactive controls.
- Touch Targets: All interactive elements are sized to a minimum of 44x44 pixels to accommodate users with motor impairments using touch screens.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some areas of our site may not yet fully meet every guideline. Specifically:
- The third-party appointment request form embedded from FormHippo may have accessibility limitations beyond our direct control. We are working with our form provider to improve this.
- The Google Maps embed in our contact section may not be fully navigable by keyboard or screen reader. We have provided our full address as accessible text on the same page as an alternative.
- Any video content on our site may not include captions. We are working to add captions to existing video content.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), and TalkBack (Android)
- Browser zoom and text resizing up to 200 percent without loss of content or functionality
- High contrast display modes
- Voice recognition software including Dragon NaturallySpeaking
- Keyboard-only navigation
